![]() ![]() As shown in the example above, the team can place the Hallucination near a suspicious player, forcing them to self-identify as a cheater if they engage with the cloned character in any way. Hallucinations can be hidden and positioned anywhere relative to a suspicious player in the world. Hallucinations can be deployed both as a method of mitigation for verified cheaters or, in secret, as a detection for suspicious players: These false characters are undetectable by legitimate players, and they cannot impact a legitimate player’s aim, progression, end of match stats or overall gameplay experience, but serve to disorient cheaters in a variety of ways. Hallucinations place decoy characters within the game that can only be detected by cheaters that have been specifically flagged by our system. In the latest report, we wanted to showcase one mitigation in active use and another we’ve developed but since put on the shelf to help further outline our philosophy around developing mitigations and protecting your overall gameplay experience. You can read more about previously announced mitigations in our Season 03 Progress Report. That means, on average, for every one cheater our community reports in-game our detections also mitigate three accounts detected of cheating before they are able to impact our community’s experience. In Modern Warfare II, for example, we mitigated four players for every one report. Mitigation data shows our detections are doing a better job of protecting the game. ![]() The data we gather through analysis of mitigated players enhances our ability to reliably detect and ban players using similar cheat software.Īfter we capture info, cheaters are removed from matches and/or the accounts are permanently disabled across titles, as outlined in our Security and Enforcement Policy. Allowing cheaters to remain in the game in a mitigated state provides #TeamRICOCHET with intel, while keeping cheaters occupied, in the dark, and unable to harm your in-game experience. These are gameplay adjustments we can make to constrain the gameplay experience of verified cheaters – such as taking away their weapons with Disarm or making legitimate players invisible to cheaters with Cloaking.Ĭheating in video games such as Call of Duty is big business, and the technology behind cheats is constantly evolving. In some scenarios, #TeamRICOCHET may choose to deploy in-game roadblocks we call Mitigations on accounts we verify as cheating. One of the ways we accomplish this is by banning accounts we have determined are cheating however, we have also outlined our use of mitigations and we wanted to refresh the community on why and how those systems are used. #TeamRICOCHET remains focused on combating unfair play and ejecting bad actors from our games. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() “We will be demonstrating the first fully SEF-compatible SSD in KIOXIA booth #307 and show how this new technology liberates flash storage from legacy HDD protocols to enable a platform tailored to the unique demands of flash media in the hyperscale environment.”Īt the Flash Memory Summit there are seminars and a keynote explaining the collaboration with powerful new hardware and open source support for Flash. “SEF hardware is purpose-built for hyperscale requirements and supports the Linux Foundation’s SEF open source community project,” said Eric Ries, Executive VP at KIOXIA America Inc. However, the relevance of all this to the practical day-to-day job of communicating about projects, businesses, and causes is rarely unpacked. Certainly no-one who has absorbed the current wave of superhero movies would doubt the existence of a governing theory that produces a consistent narrative structure across all of them. The influence of Campbell’s work is undoubted – particularly on the film industry – where it is credited as an inspiration for Star Wars, The Matrix, and many other blockbusters. This was outlined most famously in his 1949 book, The Hero With a Thousand Faces. As a researcher, Campbell studied great myths and legends from across the world, and attempted to synthesise them all into one myth to rule them all a core archetypal structure behind all compelling human narratives. Where more depth is present, it often relies heavily on The Hero’s Journey, a ‘monomyth’ developed by the late American mythologist Joseph Campbell. More often than not, these are accompanied with dubious neuroscientific claims to the effect that we are ‘hardwired’ to find stories compelling, but rarely any real practical suggestions, or reasons why some stories might be more successful than others. However, attempts to advocate for ‘storytelling’ as a method, tend to consist mainly of paeans to the wonderful things that stories can self-evidently ‘do’ – inspire us, bring us together, help us see the future, and move us to action. That you need to gradually draw people in, make them intrigued and curious, rather than just immediately unloading your central message. Most obviously, if you are trying to connect with an audience, describing it through the lens of people’s experiences (or your own) can be far more emotive and powerful than raw information or statistics. The idea that you can just apply a simple method, and your business, your project, or your cause, could borrow some of the glamour and attractiveness of a Hollywood blockbuster, is a pretty compelling one.Īnd of course, there are many straightforward lessons here that still need learning. It’s not hard to see why this has happened. In particular, any organisation that sees itself as having a social or ethical cause is told that the key to their success is effective storytelling, though often with little definition of what exactly that means in practice. From merely being a descriptive category or an element of artistic production, storytelling has now become something we should all be doing, a method that everyone should master in the age of social media. ![]() More recently, it’s become a general way of discussing how authors create narrative forms of art across many mediums, from films to television, books to games, and the original, spoken form.īut in the last few years, a further use has emerged. The cost of display-referred is an early loss of the relationship between pixel luminosity and saturation (usually also involving hue shifts), which is responsible for the infamous “HDR look” when the dynamic range increases. A tone curve is automatically (and irreversably) applied to this data to make the image look “good” on your display and subsequent edits are carried out on top of this already highly-modified image data. In display-referred processing the data from your Raw file is initially compressed into a range that represents pure black as 0 and pure white as 1, fixing mid-gray at 0.5. This approach is used extensively in cinematography and is known to be much more robust than the traditional display-referred approach. If you have used other Raw software in the past (or darktable prior to version 3.0) you may notice some significant differences from what you are used to – darktable now uses a scene-referred approach for most of its processing modules. □scene-referred workflow: a new approach If the scene dynamic range is lower than that of your camera, you may wish to dial in some over-exposure (decrease shutter speed or increase aperture) to capture more light and reduce noise. As a general rule of thumb, in cases where the scene-dynamic-range exceeds that of your camera, it is safe to under-expose all images by 0.5 to 1 EV (by reducing the ISO sensitivity if possible) even if the in-camera preview looks darker than expected (the preview is not the raw data). Where possible, you are advised to use exposure to-the-right (ETTR) techniques to maximize the amount of data available for processing while avoiding clipping. Under- or over-exposure can be “fixed” by darktable to some extent but no software can recover information that is not present in the Raw image (clipped highlights). ![]() Good image processing techniques start in the camera – a well-exposed image (without blown highlights or heavily crushed blacks) will always make post-processing much more straightforward. □getting started □take a well-exposed photograph You are advised to follow the guidelines provided below, up to the end of the image processing in 3 modules section and then choose other areas to learn as-and-when you need to use those techniques in your images.
